UCC rising in world university rankings

According to the most recent results of the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, University College Cork (UCC) is ranked 67th out of 1,963 universities worldwide.

The only evidence-based assessment in the world that assesses universities’ adherence to the UN Sustainable Development Goals in four major areas—research, outreach, stewardship, and teaching—the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking is in its sixth year of existence.

Overall, UCC, which was selected as the Green Gown Awards’ global sustainability university of the year in 2023, has now been ranked 67th in the world for Impact in the same year. The university is also ranked sixth in Europe and among the top 4% of all universities worldwide.

In five of the ranking’s seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, UCC received a score in the top thirty including:

  • SDG 2, Zero Hunger: 20th overall
  • SDG 11, Sustainable Cities/ Communities: 30th overall
  • SGG 12, Responsible Consumption & Production: 26th overall
  • SDG 14, Life Below Water: 29th overall
  • SDG 16, Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions: 16th overall

Further enhancing the appeal of studying in Cork, UCC has climbed nineteen places in one of the world’s leading education rankings.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a global higher education analyst, has ranked UCC 273rd in the world in the QS World University Rankings for 2024–2025.

QS rated the university highly in every category, particularly noting its sustainability, internationalization, and reputation with graduate employers.

This independent evaluation assesses universities based on metrics such as teaching, research, sustainability, internationalization, employer reputation, and graduate employment outcomes.
